I use the Local Channel exclusively 1 2.63%

I feel that one of the noobies trying to buy my items cheap put it best:

Why is it that all the obnoxious local chat spammers have huge names filled with spaces?

Answer: I don't know, but I still do it!

However, I add in useless characters to extend the length of my spam message, this way I am prevented from spamming it often, and get to post about once every 30-45 seconds.

Pudding.

Don't really have either open most of the time. Missions with guildies or henchies and the merchant is my friend.

I use the trade channel exclusively, but occasionally allow the chat filter to do the job for me, if I'm feeling too tried to click my mouse

For instance I may type "WTS [Advert]" In my local chat, so that it be moved to trade chat by the game.

Does that count as inexclusive use of the trade channel? >_<

#23: Shift+5 ftw my friend.

I think Anet should have used more instances in the filter. If a message starts with "WT B", "W.T.B" or any of the various WTB/WTS's available, then it should be moved to Trade channel. Only if the message starts with those though, we dont want messages such as "Your a hawt babe" being moved over now do we?

Edit: I only say stuff like that to actual girls in real life

I use the Trade Channel exclusively since that is what it is there for. I find it rude when people use the local channel for trade.

Local only.

Tried using trade channel too many times with no results. Last time was when i sold my mini pet, 15 minutes of standing around in trade with nothing, within seconds of posting a wt/s on local i had 10 offers.

Its not my fault trade channel SUCKS and dosnt work.

People using any other channel than the trading channel should be reported.

I don't care what lousy argument people come up with or how it's the norm to use the local channel - those arguments are void.

Please Anet make an easy way to report offenders on the site.

I probably use both equally. I really can't be bothered spamming so i'll put out my ad a couple of times then skip district. Do that for Ascalon, LA, droks and Kaineng and if no-one's interested I just go back to playing and try again another time.

I would use the trade channel exclusively if it worked but i've never sold anything through the trade channel. All of my sales have come directly after an ad in Local.

Hmm, I'm kind of surprised that this many people simply sell their items to the merchant, even though the items could be worth much much more

Trade channel exclusively for me. I also make it a point to not work with anyone using the local channel for WTS, WTB, WTT. Always felt like I was contributing something positive to the community by ignoring trades on local channel, even though my effort was a drop in the bucket and made no difference at all.

No matter how tempting it is, I have never used the local channel to sell my wares. The only time I have posted in it related to a sale is if I'm trying to transact with someone and they are set to offline and can't read my pms.

Merchants only. Got a cold mill in the bank from just merchant trading... That's probably because I refuse to pay for overpriced farmed items from other players. Collector items! Wheeee lol

Boo hoo, i dont actually care.

I once used the local to sell something (that i sold very quickly because of it ), some random whispered me "you ****ING AS****LE dont use the FFIN chat you FFFIN noob.

which one of us should have been banned?

I really dont care if it bothers you, i will do whatever i have to to aviod spending huge amounts of time idling.

Local chat works, and untill a decent system is put in place ill carry on using it.

I shall also carry on not caring :P

Unless its worth more than 20k i set a time limit of 5 minutes, any longer than that and its either a freebee to guildees or it goes to the merchant.
I just have no patience to sit around for long pressing return.

Id love to just "fire and forget" like you can in an auction house, cant stand idling.

For the most part, it's due to (1) storage limitations and (2) time.

I sell almost all of my items to the merchant (including upgrades), unless I know that it would fetch over 5K on the open market.

To me, it's much more likely that I wll be able to make up that 3-4K difference quicker by playing the game than to spam for 30 minutes trying to sell it.

In light of that, I usually have a bag full (i.e. 10) of items that are saved for future sale, and I just wait for that wonderful WTB message before I sell them. For example, I had a +30 Fortitude Bow Grip in my bag for over 3 months, and just sold it yesterday for about 40K. Not too bad since I normally see people spamming them for 25K or so.

To be honest, I would say that neither of you is deserving of a ban, but you were more in the wrong than he was.

This is basically the age old argument of who is more in the wrong:

1. Someone that parks in a parking space reserved for the handicapped; or
2. Someone that gives that person the middle finger for doing so.

#2 is certainly in bad taste, but #1 is the person that consciously did something that was wrong in order to "save some time", at the expense of others.

You basically post in the local channel to circumvent the filters for those that normally do not want to be bombarded by trade offers. IMO, that is the equivalent of:

1. A telemarketer calling you at dinner time; or
2. An unwanted pop up advertisement.

Fortunately, both of the above sources are blockable in this day and age. Unfortunately, spamming in the local channel is not, which to me makes it a bit worse than either of the examples above.

While i'm not justifying what I did, there is no reason to call someone a ffin ahole. Also it’s not comparable to parking in a handicapped place whatsoever, don’t talk nonsense.

I’m doing something which I know is annoying, but tough, i’m not standing around for 20 minutes just so I don’t inconvenience you. Whispering someone they are an ahole is consciously being abusive, like I said i’m not justifying what I did, I understand it is annoying, but I don’t care i’m not standing around for 20 minutes, and i have no guilt. Ive never actually managed to sell anything in trade (apart from 2 ecto, woot), i never shift it untill its in local, i think most of my buys are locals as well (as in im just selecting henchies and, ohhhhh bargain ill have that) Give me an auction house, or put up with local spammers, fight the cause not the symptom.

You may have 20 minutes to spare doing nothing, i would rather do something.

You got a problem with someone trading in local, report them, or ask nicely don’t whisper abuse, frankly I think that’s a worse, and far more immature.

I do not call cold callers ffin aholes, I feel sorry for any that call you.

A much more sensible comparison than the disabled spot one. something you should consider, you don’t even know how old I am, I could be 12 or 21, if you think its sensible to hurl that level of abuse at someone, regardless of age, regardless of the reasons, you need to learn manners.

Abuse is wrong, stop trying to justify it.

Trading in local is "wrong", its annoying, i know that, im not saying its ok, i just dont care enough to sacrife 20 minutes of my life pressing the return key.

fight the cause, not the sympton.

BANANA PUDDING

Some of my post is a little off topic, but hey, bannanas.

I do however feel that justification aside, spamming in local is a sympton of a lack of any real trade system, and no i dont think a chat channel for trade is a system. Of course there will always be some that stick to local, but how many people are really going to bother standing around for X minutes when they can just fire and forget, i think it would do wonders for the economy as well.

Also the weathers nice isnt it?
